We just returned this afternoon from a 2 night stay in Byron Bay. We stayed at the Byron Motor Lodge Motel. The Motel has basic amenities, but is very convenient to town, beach and restaurants. We’ve stayed there before, and probably will stay there again one day.
Thursday lunch was fish and chips on the foreshores, takeaway from Fishheads. That evening we had drinks and tapas with George (she used to work for my old workplace too) at the Balcony Bar. We had Thai food Thursday night at a restaurant down an arcade near the middle of town. Adia gave her seal of approval on the Tom Yum Talai, almost as good as Raun Thai in Toowong. On Friday night we had dinner at Olivos. George recommended this restaurant, and after seeing the menu, we were keen to try it out. I had the “Line caught fish” – which was a blue eyed cod which was a tasty simple dish with potatoes. Adia had the grilled seafood which had a real smokey flavour. It reminded Adia of street food from Indonesia, which she has never found served here, and she really enjoyed it. We both had the crepes for dessert. There was a 3 piece busking group playing jazzy music across the street & they were pretty good. I think they were set up there specifically for the entertainment of Olivos customers as a ruse to get more busking tips.
For Breakfast on Friday and Saturday mornings we went to Whynot cafe. I had the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and Adia had Kedgeree on Friday and I had the Pancakes with banana and butterscotch, while Adia had a muffin on Saturday.
The weather was fantastic and we had a great time at the beach. Click on the picture below for some pictures of our trip.
Looks Great ! Gotta love Byron Bay. Much warmer than Slovenia – where it is Minus 8 today. Snow everywhere. Jealous of the warm weather. Hop you both are well!!!! Blaine and Jo
